Intern Diaries: Tabitha

My internship with Cardiff Life was just an amazing experience. The women working there were extremely friendly and welcoming, and it’s hard to voice how easily they made it possible for me to integrate myself into their workflow. I worked on multiple projects without feeling forced, and I learned many new things that interested me, which helped me to expand my skill set.

While I was with Cardiff Life they hit 30K on their Cardiff Life Instagram. I got involved with the CEO Chelsea Pinches-Burrowes in creating some Instagram content to post in celebration. We went out and got these massive balloons. A three, a zero and a K. Unfortunately for me it was another typically windy day, let’s say wrestling giant helium balloons was not on my to-do list for the day. It turned into a blessing, we got some hilarious footage of me struggling to hold the balloons up for a photo. All while standing in front of Cardiff Castle while a gaggle of schoolchildren giggled at my attempts to be aesthetic. And that was just the first few hours of the first day. The rest was spent writing up research I conducted the week before the internship for the magazine.

The rest of the week was spent working on articles involving topics from food & bev to new ventures from a locally run tattoo shop trying to better his community during the cost of living crisis. I also took on other responsibilities such as writing email campaigns to send out about ‘What’s on this April’ and an informational newsletter on ‘Cardiff Dragons’ the fiery netball team based in Cardiff. I also helped create Instagram posts and reels and took part in some content creation for a charity choir, a truly unique experience for me. I was given full creative control over the reel so that could get a grasp on my skills and what I can do when left to my own devices. But of course, I asked the experts what they thought.

I also did a lot of research, and I mean a lot. For each piece of copy I wrote, I had to research what was needed for the piece and find high-quality images. But, this was all incredibly useful, I have become well-informed on everything Cardiff and its local businesses.

Cardiff life has shown me that I can easily adapt to my environment and learn new things every day. I just want to say thank you to them for this amazing experience and I would love to work with them again.
